Eleventh Annual "Dinner with Friends" Raises $30,000
The eleventh annual "Dinner with Friends" on Saturday, April 6, 2013, was a great success. Sponsors, friends, and attendees raised nearly $30,000 for the new Digital Media Lab in the Du Bois Library. The event, hosted by the Friends of the UMass Amherst Libraries, featured a talk by New York Times bestselling mystery writer Archer Mayor.

Peregrine Falcons Nesting Atop Library Get New Camera
A pair of Peregrine Falcons, which have successfully nested on the roof of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library for the past eleven years, have a new, more powerful web camera. To date, three out of four falcon eggs have hatched. http://library.umass.edu/falcons (with support for both iOS and Android mobile devices.)
UMass Amherst Introduces "Green Monstah" E-Waste Recycling Center at Library
The Campus Sustainability Initiative is partnering with the UMass Amherst Libraries to provide an easy, centralized way for the campus community to recycle electronic products. The vestibule of the Du Bois Library is now home to the "Green Monstah" Electronic Waste Recycling Center. The campus community can now recycle small electronics like phone chargers, USB cables, iPods, and calculators, as well as light bulbs, ink cartridges, and non-alkaline batteries.
Libraries Sustainability Fund Wins Award
The Libraries Sustainability Fund is the winner of the prestigious Gale Cengage Learning Financial Development Award. The award is presented annually to a library organization which exhibits meritorious achievement in creating new means of funding for a public or academic library. The Libraries developed the Sustainability Fund to engage philanthropic support from faculty, students, alumni, and friends who recognize the value of the rapidly-growing field of sustainability studies.
Pioneers of Mass Aggie: Founders, Builders, and Innovators
The Libraries host an exhibit, "Pioneers of Mass Aggie: Founders, Builders, and Innovators," through May 13, 2013, on the Lower Level and on Floor 25 of Du Bois Library, UMass Amherst. "Pioneers" is the first of three exhibits to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the University of Massachusetts and will focus on the early history of "Mass Aggie," as the Massachusetts Agricultural College was known. A talk and reception will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
