Changes to the Interlibrary Loan Service

On May 21, we will replaced our current online form for interlibrary loan requests with a new form. This form is part of an interlibrary loan software package called ILLiad (interlibrary loan internet access database)

To use the form, please complete the ‘First Time User’ registration. Please scroll down (reading through the information), then click on ‘First Time Users Click Here’ button. Fill out the registration page with the requested contact information. You will need to select a user name and password. As with our current form, the registration form needs to be completed once (unless you wish to change your password or update address information). This registration will set up your ILLiad account.

If you have any problems or questions, please contact:
The Interlibrary Loan office at 545-0553 or
Kathy Ridenour (577-0175 or kathrynr@library.umass.edu) or
Anne Moore (545-6888 or amoore@library.umass.edu)

Why are we replacing the current online form?

This form has worked very well for us. However, the new form is part of a software package that will enhance our efficiency in a number of ways. It will also offer a number of convenient features to you. The overall result will be improved turnaround time on requests, especially article requests.

ILLiad features:

  • patron interface: You will be able to check the status of your requests or request book renewals by logging into your ILLiad account. This online check can be done at any time of day from any computer that has web access. You do not have to phone the interlibrary loan office during office hours to ask for a renewal or to check on the status of a request.
  • electronic delivery: A short time after we begin using ILLiad, we will offer our patrons electronic delivery of articles. This will mean faster delivery of articles. You can access articles from home or from your office by simply logging into your ILLiad account. The articles will be posted to a server in PDF format and you will be able to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the file.
Receiving articles by mail will still be available.
  • e-mail notification: You will receive email notification about your requests.
  • resubmit canceled requests at a later date: Requests are sometimes canceled due to incomplete information or because the journal issue or book is not yet available. With ILLiad, you will be able to call up the original request in your ILLiad account and add to it or revise the information (if necessary). The request can then be resubmitted as an interlibrary loan request.
