About Us: Overview
The UMass Amherst Libraries is a system consisting of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library (including the Learning Commons) and the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library. The system also manages the Image Collection Library and the Music Reserve Lab.
Our Mission
As a gateway to knowledge, the Libraries are a key partner in teaching, learning, and research at UMass Amherst [and in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts]. Supporting freedom of inquiry, the Libraries foster a diverse and inclusive environment in which to engage with ideas and acquire the critical skills necessary for life-long learning. By combining the latest information technology with excellent public service, the staff builds and maintains a rich information environment, facilitates access to it, and creates a hub of campus and community scholarly activity. Our staff of over 40 librarians, 80 paraprofessionals, and hundreds of student assistants are eager to assist both remote and in-building users. We are a member of the Association of Research Libraries and participate in many collaborations to broaden our collections and extend or enhance our services to UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff. Community members are invited to visit our two library buildings, borrow materials, and enjoy most of our extensive services.
