About Instructional Services

Mission: A goal of the University Libraries at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is to foster information literacy as an integral part of the University's commitment to scholarship. Our mission is to:

  • Teach users to identify, access, critically evaluate and ethically use information resources through planned instruction.
  • Collaborate broadly with faculty and staff to integrate library resources and information literacy standards into the University curricula.

Staff in the instruction program work with faculty to structure sessions according to the needs and diverse learning styles of the students and the objectives of the course. They also offer their expertise in partnering with faculty to integrate information literacy skills into existing courses in a variety of ways to provide individuals with the necessary information literacy skills essential for lifelong learning.
