UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES

BEGINS DU BOIS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Amherst, MA - Renovations are underway in the Du Bois Library to replace the building's HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system and expand the Learning Commons on the Lower Level.  The project will take approximately two years and include new air handling units, duct work, paint and carpeting, as well as additional smoke detectors, group study rooms, and individual computer workstations.

Throughout each phase of the project, approximately one quarter of the Lower Level will be unavailable for use and these construction zones will be blocked off by temporary walls.  Upon completion, the project will add about 5,000 square feet to the Learning Commons.

"We appreciate everyone's understanding while we work on this important project," said Terry Warner, the Library's Assistant Director for Administrative Services.  "We recognize that construction can be an inconvenience but when the renovations are completed we will have a bigger and better Learning Commons.  The library tower is fully wireless now; therefore, students with laptops have the option to study on a higher floor while we are under construction."

For more information, contact Terry Warner, at twarner@library.umass.edu, or 413-577-1596.
