UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES TO SURVEY CAMPUS COMMUNITY
Amherst, MA – The UMass Amherst Libraries will conduct a survey, LibQUAL+™, of faculty members and graduate students, and a random sample of 2,800 undergraduates starting March 30, 2011. Participants will be emailed and asked to participate in the brief web-based survey. A free beverage from the Procrastination Station Café in the Du Bois Library will be offered as an incentive to complete the survey.
The results of the survey will be used to help assess and improve the UMass Amherst Libraries’ services, collections, and facilities; to determine best practices; and indicate where to concentrate improvements for UMass Amherst users. The results will also allow the Libraries to benchmark its results against libraries from Association of American Universities (AAU) and other institutions. UMass Amherst is among over 100 libraries participating in this survey this spring.
In 2007, the UMass Amherst Libraries conducted a LibQUAL+™ survey, contributing to the Libraries’ initiating many improvements, particularly in the Du Bois Library. Improvements include more electronic resources; a Teaching Commons; an improved web site with better searching capabilities; and a 20 percent expansion of the Learning Commons to about 30,000 square feet, including a 60-percent boost in seating, additional computers, a pod of multimedia workstations, and more group study rooms.
LibQUAL+ ™ is a rigorously tested web-based survey administered by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).
