The Cataloging & Processing Department catalogs library materials in all formats, corrects errors and records changes in the Library Catalog, physically processes library materials in preparation for shelving, and repairs and preserves library books.
Cataloging is the process of providing a description of an item, assigning a call number, assigning headings by which an item can be accessed in the Library Catalog, and providing cross-references to authorized forms of headings. Physical processing involves applying call numbers and barcode labels, ownership stamps, book pockets or plates, and security devices to items added to the Library's collections.
