Call number indexing
Call numbers in Innopac are indexed from the item records. Call numbers in bibliographic records are not indexed in Innopac, except for 086 numbers, and their accuracy is currently not being maintained in record revisions. Call numbers in check-in records, however, are indexed and maintained in order to be able to sort by call number in review files without getting extensive lists of item records. These call numbers in check-in records will cause double hits in call number searches.

090 and 099 call numbers
There should be only one 090 or 099 call number in cataloging copy submitted for input into OCLC. If an 090 call number is being assigned that differs from the 090 call number on member contributed copy, either revise the call number on the copy, or delete the existing 090 and add a new 090, whichever is simpler. If an 099 call number is being assigned, delete any 090 call numbers in the copy. Do not delete an 086 call number.

050 call numbers
If there are two or more 050 call numbers in a record and one of them is being used, delete the others. Generally do not change an 050 call number, except:
086 call numbers (Superintendent of Documents numbers) are used in federal documents cataloged by GPO. They are indexed from the bibliographic record.  The display to the public, however, is from the item record. 086 call numbers will be maintained in both item records and bibliographic records. If using the 086 call number in a record, it is not necessary to delete any 050 or 090 call numbers that may exist in the bibliographic record.
