WORKING TOOLS HOUSED IN STAFF LOCATIONS

CONTENTS

Cataloged material
Uncats

Working tools for staff locations will be processed either as cataloged to the location or as "uncats," depending on the preference of the location ordering the material.

Cataloged material

Cataloged working tools will receive full cataloging and end processing. Bibliographic and item records will be produced on OCLC, overlay the bibliographic record used for ordering, and not be suppressed in Innopac. The location for all such material in the Technical Services Division will be Technical Services. A note will be added in the item record to show the departmental location, i.e., Acquisitions, Cataloging, or Information Processing. Physical processing will include a pocket, spine and inside cover call number labels, ownership stamp, and detection target. Volumes will be barcoded and linked.

Uncats

Uncataloged working tools will be represented in Innopac by the bibliographic record entered by Acquisitions for ordering, which will be suppressed (bcode3=s) and have no Cat Date, and an order record, which will include a note saying, "Uncat to [department]." If there are no cataloged copies of the title in Innopac, the order record will remain in the database indefinitely. If a copy of the title is cataloged, the order record will eventually be deleted from Innopac and archived. Records on OCLC will neither be produced nor updated. No item record will be attached. Routing slips should say, "Uncat to [location]." The location for all material in the Technical Services Division will be Technical Services, and the routing slips should say "Uncat to TECH. SERV." with the specific department written afterwards. Books should be placed on the "Uncat" shelf in Information Processing.

Physical processing will include:

1. Bookplate with location (spelled out in full). If the location is in Technical Services, the name of the specific department should be written in pencil underneath TECHNICAL SERVICES.   2. Ownership stamp   3. Spine label with only the name of the location, i.e., TECH SERV, typed on it.   Volumes will not be barcoded or linked.
