UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES HOSTS
EXHIBIT: "DESIGNING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE"
Amherst, MA - "Designing a Sustainable Future" an exhibit of selected works from undergraduate and graduate students of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning is on display through Sept 11, 2009, in the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library at UMass Amherst (Lederle Graduate Research Center Lowrise, Floor 2). The exhibit is on view during library hours. A closing reception will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The reception is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
"Designing a Sustainable Future" consists of selected student works from research, community service learning, and studio projects in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning (LARP). It focuses on themes of remediation, renewal, human experience on the land, and sustainability as an art form. The exhibit contains maps, plans, photographs, drawings, data, and a 3-D model, and covers sites around the Pioneer Valley as well as in Belize and England.
The creators of "Designing a Sustainable Future" define sustainability as "caring for and shaping our environment with respect to ecology to build a viable economy that can expand and establish social equity."
