The UMass Amherst Libraries are participating in Boston Library Consortium partnership with the Internet Archive. This partnership aims to build an open, non-profit, non-exclusive library of digital material from the 19 BLC member libraries. It is the first large-scale consortium to embark on such a self-funded digitization project. The Libraries are currently working to identify materials in our collections to digitize. The Northeast Regional Scanning Center located in the Boston Public Library is managing the project.
- Focus on the following OCA digitization priorities:
- Unique materials in Special Collections and University Archives
- Local history books
- Agricultural publications, especially Agricultural Experiment Station materials to build a corpus of digitized materials for Massachusetts and the New England Region
- Massachusetts state documents
- Orphan works
- Pre-1923 books that are unique to UMass Amherst in the general circulating collection
- Create links to the digitized version in the online catalog to facilitate discovery of materials.
