Equipment Borrowing Policy


Who is eligible

All UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff may check out equipment.
Valid UCard required. A second picture ID may also be requested.

Loan Periods

See details for each item. Most audio/video equipment is available for a 3-day loan.
Borrowers may renew items if inventory is sufficient.
Borrowers are responsible for equipment while it is checked out to them.

Returns

Return equipment to the Digital Media Lab on the 3rd Floor or at the Circulation Desk on the Lower Level.
Equipment must be checked in by a staff member.
Do not return equipment in a Library book return or leave on a service desk unattended.
Equipment checked out within 4 hours of closing is due back 30 minutes before the Digital Media Lab closes.
Borrowers are liable for loss or damage to equipment, including loss or damage caused by putting it in the Library's book returns. 
Borrowers are also liable for late fees and replacement costs for equipment given to a third party to return.

Fines and Fees

Replacement fees vary per item.
Late fees are $20.00 per hour or fraction thereof, up to a maximum fine of $480.00.
Non-refundable $10.00 billing and $15.00 processing fees are added to bills for fines and replacement costs.

Replacement Costs

After 24 hours, borrowers may be billed for the replacement cost of the equipment.
