Head, Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Services
Librarian II or III
The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position of Head, Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Services. Under general supervision of the Associate Director for Library Services, Provide energetic, innovative, and user-focused leadership of staff and services of the UMass Amherst Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Services Department in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library. Serve as administrative lead for the Teaching Commons and the Learning Commons. Collaborate with campus and library service providers to ensure the highest quality services. Engage in continual assessment of evolving user needs and adapt services appropriately. Plan and develop services that enhance support of curriculum, research, and information needs for undergraduates. Ensure that staff receive comprehensive training and staff development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in library sciences from an American Library Association-accredited library and information studies program.
2. Minimum of two years of professional library experience in an academic, research, or special library.
3. Experience with working in an integrated service environment, including technology, reference, instruction, liaison, collection development, and/or electronic information resources.
4. Demonstrated user-focused service philosophy and proven ability to work effectively with a diverse and multicultural population of faculty, staff, students, and community members.
5. Demonstrated understanding of established information literacy standards for academic libraries and its applications, especially for undergraduate populations. Familiarity with ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.
6. Fluency with emerging technologies and ability to use them to create and deliver instructional content. Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, plus familiarity with one or more of the following: screencasting software (e.g. Captivate, Camtasia); digital audio/video production; Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, RSS, etc)
7. Successful supervisory, management, and leadership experience with demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development.
8. Ability and willingness to learn new technologies on an ongoing basis.
9. Current experience and working technical knowledge of networks, hardware, and software such as Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other common productivity tools.
10. Ability to view issues from a campus wide perspective, foster teamwork, and stimulate cross-functional collaboration.
11. Experience and skill in evaluating and implementing information technology applications, particularly in a multi-department collaboration.
12. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly in presentations.
13. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change and innovation; and ability to interact effectively and work productively, collegially, cooperatively, and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
14. Desirable qualifications include an additional degree in a subject area; knowledge of at least one modern European language; successful experience in grant writing; and a record of service to the profession.
15. Ability to work a schedule, which includes evening weekend, and holiday hours.
