Finding Articles from Journals and Magazines

What are periodicals and articles?

Journals and magazines are types of periodicals.

A periodical refers to material that is published at regular intervals such as:
  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
Specific examples of periodicals include:
  • General Interest Magazines
  • Scholarly Journals
  • Industry and Trade Magazines
  • Newsletters
  • Newspapers
  • Zines

Articles found in periodicals have some basic characteristics in common compared with books:

  • They are relatively short in length,
  • Generally address more specific topics
  • Especially valued for providing current information.

Despite these similarities, journal and magazine articles serve different purposes.
