Library Research Tutorials

The UMass Amherst Library Research Tutorials present step-by-step, interactive processes to help you identify, gather, evaluate and cite resources. These tutorials cover:

  • techniques for using different search tools, such as databases, indexes, the library catalog and search engines;
  • ways to find different types of resources, such as articles, books, reference materials and web pages.

"Getting Started with Research" is an excellent place to begin your research, even if you have used the library recently. So much changes each semester. The subject tutorials on the left build on the basic research skills in"Getting Started" and apply examples to subject-specific resources.

Please note: If you are submitting an assignment to your instructor through one of these tutorials, the e-mail address you enter for your instructor must end in ".umass.edu" If the email address is not from UMass, complete the form, print it out, and hand it in to your instructor.

Finally, the Instructional Services department welcomes your feedback about these tutorials. Send us an email and tell us what you think.
