UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES FILL THREE KEY POSITIONS

     Amherst , MA . – UMass Amherst Libraries have chosen three new librarians to head key departments in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library and the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library.

     Cecilia Mullen has been appointed to the position of Head of the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library. Prior to this position, Ms. Mullen, who holds an MLS degree from the University of Washington , was an Engineering Reference Librarian at San Jose State University . While at San Jose State University , she served as Head of the Science and Engineering Department on three consecutive appointments. From 1996-2000, she served as Head of Special Collections and University Archives and prior to that, served as Interim Head of the Reference Department. She is an active member of the American Society for Engineering Education, in the Engineering Libraries Division and served in several elected positions.

     Robert Cox has been appointed to the position of Head of Special Collections and Archives. Mr. Cox taught in the Department of Geology and the Department of History at the University of Michigan and was the Curator of Manuscripts and Photographs at the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan . His most recent position was as Keeper of Manuscripts and Director of Scholarship and Technology at the American Philosophical Society. Aside from his MILS from the University of Michigan , he holds masters' degrees in history, poetry, and paleontology, and a PhD in history. He recently edited a new volume of essays on Lewis and Clark, expected out this month. His other publications include numerous articles as well as Body and Soul: A Sympathetic History of American Spiritualism.

     Scott Stangroom has been appointed to the position of Head of Acquisitions. In addition to his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Anselm College and an MSLIS degree from Simmons, he has fourteen years of acquisitions experience including a variety of positions at Boston College . His most recent position was as electronic resources and systems librarian at Boston College , O'Neill Library. Prior to that, he was head of technical services at Nashua Public Library. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Library Association, Association of College and Research Libraries, and the North American Serials Interest Group.
