UMASS AMHERST LIBRARY
FEATURED ON ALA PRESIDENT'S WEB SITEAmherst, MA – The UMass Amherst Library is one of four libraries featured on the web site of the American Library Association president, Leslie Burger. For her 2006-07 presidential initiative, Leslie Burger chose the theme “Libraries Transform Communities.” Library transformation photos and stories were solicited for the web site; the four selected libraries can be seen at http://lb.princetonlibrary.org/stories.html.
“We know that when libraries are transformed either by new service programs, renovations, or new buildings that the communities we serve are in turn transformed,” says Burger on her web site. “Our users' relationship with the library changes, they become advocates and passionate supporters for what we do, and learn in new and different ways.”
The W.E.B. Du Bois Library’s lobby and lower level were re-designed and renovated in 2005 to create a café and Learning Commons.
