UMASS AMHERST
DIGITAL QUADRANGLE SERIES COLLOQUIUM

“Research & Scholarship in the Digital Age: An Exploration”

Amherst, MA - UMass Amherst will host “Research and Scholarship in the Digital Age: An Exploration” on April 6, 2006, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons on the Lower Level of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.  Chris Greer, Program Director, National Science Foundation’s Division of Biological Infrastructure is the guest speaker.  Faculty members will discuss how online journals, open source initiatives, and new data techniques have affected their research.  Exploring the changing nature of the representation of knowledge and how it will affect research and scholarship is the theme of the inaugural colloquium for faculty, staff, and graduate students.  Refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m.  A wine & cheese reception including a showcase of digital research services will follow the program.  The event is open to the public.

Recognizing that the digital revolution is transforming research and scholarship on the academic campus, four units serving the research and teaching mission of the campus — UMass Amherst Libraries, Office of Research, Center for Teaching, and Graduate School have come together to offer colloquia and events as part of a new UMass Amherst Digital Quadrangle series.  The series sponsors will discuss their services in the context of research and digital collections.  Chris Greer will speak about multi-disciplinary digital collections and toolkits for future applications.
