Library Announces September Exhibits
New Orleans : Land and Waters
An exhibit featuring satellite, geologic and topographic maps with commentaries
Celebrating 20 years of the Stonewall Center
A Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender Educational Resource Center
Amherst , MA – The Du Bois Library at UMass Amherst host s two exhibits on the 2nd floor this month. New Orleans : Land and Waters is on display in the Map Collection, and Celebrating 20 years of the Stonewall Center is in the Reading Room .
New Orleans: Land and Waters graphically demonstrates the underlying causes of the immense natural disaster that has engulfed New Orleans and surrounding areas, raising many questions about the future of the entire Louisiana delta. Celebrating 20 years of the Stonewall Center celebrates the history and achievements of the Stonewall Center, the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender Educational Resource Center at UMass Amherst. The exhibit includes documents and newspaper articles from 1985, as well as current material. The exhibit addresses the historical context in which the Stonewall Center was formed and contains the original student demands and reports that convinced UMass Amherst to support the program. It also illustrates some of the positive changes that have taken place since the center's creation.
