Database Import Instructions

ABI Inform
1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the citations you wish to download by clicking the box.  
3. Click the “My Research” link at the top of the page.
4. Click the "Export Citations" link in the box at the top of the page.
5. Click the "Export citations into EndNote, ProCite, RefWorks, or Reference Manager" link.
6. Click the "Export directly to RefWorks" link.
7. Log into RefWorks.


Academic OneFile
1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the records you want to import by clicking the box.
3. Click on “Marked Items” at the top of the screen.
4. Click “Citation Tools” in the red “Toolbox” on the upper left side of the page.
5. Click the radio button next to “RefWorks” next to the “Export to Third Party Software.”
6. Click “Export.”
7. Log into RefWorks

Academic Search Premier

1. Conduct a search.
2. Click the "Add" icon to the right of any results you want to save.
3. Click the "Folder has items" link at the top of the page.
4. Choose the items you want to export by clicking the box or choosing “all.”
5. Click the "Export" link from inside the folder.
6. Select "Direct Export to RefWorks, EndNote, or ProCite."
7. Click "Save" to initiate a direct export.
8. Log into RefWorks.

Note: The Direct Import sometimes gets stuck and doesn't export anything. When this happens, you may need to import your citations as a text file into RefWorks using a filter, see below. OR you can close all your browsers and start over. This often gets it unstuck.

When Direct Import doesn't work:

1. Conduct a Search

3. In the “Citation Management Window” at the top of the results list click "Download Selected Citations."
4. Under "Choose Type of Download" click "Citations and Abstracts."
5. Under "Choose Citation Manager Format" choose "RefWorks" from the drop-down menu.
6. Click "Download."

Animal Behavior Abstracts

1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the records you want to import by clicking the box.
3. Click the "RefWorks" Icon.
4. Click "Export to RefWorks."
5. Log into RefWorks.


Anthropology Plus
1. Conduct a search.
2. Click the box to mark the records you want to save.
3. Click "Export" at the top or bottom of the results list.
4. Next to “Export,” click the radio button “Marked Records.”

7. Log into RefWorks.

When Direct Import doesn't work:
1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the records you want to import by clicking the box.
3. Click on display as Full button near the top of the page.
4. Click the Print link. A new window will open with your marked citations.
5. In your browser click the "File" and select "Save As."
6. Save your file as a text file (with a .txt extension) to your computer.
7. Log into RefWorks.
8. Click the "References" menu and select "Import."
9. Click the "Import Filter/Data Source" menu and select " University of Massachusetts , Amherst ."
10. Click the "Database" menu and select “Anthropology Plus.”
11. Click the radio button next to "Import Data from the following Text File."
12. Click the "Browse" button to navigate to and select your text file of saved records.

1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the references you want to import by clicking in the box.
3. Click the "Save" icon on the right hand side of the screen. .
4. Click the radio button marked "Export to RefWorks."
5. Click the "OK" button in the upper right hand side of the screen.
6. Log into RefWorks.

Arts & Humanities Citation Index

1. Conduct a search.
2. Mark the records you want to import by clicking the box.
3. Click the "Add to Marked List" button in the box at the top of the page.
4. Go to the Marked Records page by clicking the "Marked List" icon at the top of the page.
5. In Step 1: “Select the fields you want to output,” select any additional information you want to import about the citations into RefWorks. (We recommend abstracts, keywords and ISSN as well).
6. In Step 2: “Select an Option.” Check that both drop-down menus say “Field Tagged” and then click "Save to File."
7. Click the "Save" button in the dialog box to save your citations as a text file on your computer.
8. Log into RefWorks.
9. Click the "Reference" menu and select "Import."
10. Click the "Import Filter/Data Source" menu and select "University of Massachusetts, Amherst."
11. Click the "Database" menu and select "Web of Science [ISI (Institute for Scientific Information)]."
12. Click the radio button next to "Import Data from the following Text File."
13. Click the "Browse" button to navigate to and select your text file of saved records.
14. Click the "Import" button.

Contemporary Literary Criticism

5. Type in your own e-mail address in the first line (you will get a single e-
mail for each record in your marked list).
6.  Click on the radio button for Plain Text with Bibliographic Tags (Z39.80)
7. Click Send
8. Open each e-mail citation that arrives in your mailbox.
9. Copy the entire text and paste each citation into a separate Word document.

5. Your citations may download directly as a text file, or may open in a new window as text. If citations open in a new window, go to the File menu of your browser and save the citations as a text file onto your computer.
6. Log into RefWorks.
7. Click the "Reference" menu and select "Import."
8. Click the "Import Filter/Data Source" menu and select " University of Massachusetts , Amherst ."
9. Click the "Database" menu and select "JSTOR."
10. Click the radio button next to "Import Data from the following Text File."
11. Click the "Browse" button to navigate to and select your text file of saved records.
12. Click the "Import" button.
