About the Resident

Emilie Algenio (2000-2002) has a B.A. in English Literature from Guilford College and a Masters of Library Science from Simmons College. Emlie's time was split between the Digital Initiatives Team and the Electronic Reserves pilot. Her work included:

• Research the history and progress of electronic reserves within the profession;
• Research commercial electronic reserve products, locally and nationally;
• Research scanner technology for equipment purchase, locally and externally;
• Research and target faculty members available for the electronic reserves pilot program;
• Research issues of ADA compliancy and commercial software;
• Draft a copyright statement within University and national guidelines.

Residency Activities

Past Residents' activities have included:

• Creation and support of a library multimedia facility for graduate student and faculty.
• Electronic Publication of 2 full length scholarly manuscripts.
• Contributing to the development of MassBedrock, a digital library of business and economic development resources.
• Participating in a Professional Organizations Poster Session presented by UMass Amherst library staff.
• Coordinating a back-to-school library Welcome Desk.
• Contributing to an educational series of brown bag lunches. Topics have included:
• Internet filtering, a discussion led by Library Director Margo Crist and Law Librarian Barbara Morgan
• Advanced subject degrees and their usefulness to librarianship, an open discussion with UMass librarians
• Presentation and discussion with Bill McGrath, emeritus professor of library science, on publishing and research methodologies
• Presentation by Peter Nelson, Project Archivist, Five College Archives Digital Access Project
• Discussion with Sandra Balderrama, ALA Diversity Officer
• Digital Initiatives Team visit to North Carolina State University
