Renewals
Unless needed by another borrower or loaned by special exception, the items from the Du Bois main collection may be renewed in person, online or by written request.

Items on loan for the standard 4 weeks may be renewed online up to 11 times.

All books on long term loan must be presented at the library for renewal once a year at the time of the October due date.

Request Item Service
UMass Amherst users have long been able to request a book from the Four Colleges through the "Request Item" service in the Library Catalog.
Beginning June 1, 2004, UMass Amherst Libraries will run a pilot of the same "Request Item" service to enable UMass Amherst users to obtain items held in the our collections.

When to use this service:
1. UMass Amherst copy is checked out or on hold for someone else
2. UMass Amherst copy is missing or billed
3. UMass Amherst copy is "available," but you cannot come to the Library immediately (Note: it takes 2 week days for us to retrieve the item from the shelf)

How to use this service:
1. Search the Library Catalog and display the record for the item
2. Click the "Request Item" button near the top of the screen
3. Enter your name and library barcode
4. Click the "Submit above information" button
5. The screen will read, "Your request has been sent…"
6. You will be notified by email once the item is ready for pick-up.  Items requested from the ISEL collection can be picked up at the Circulation Desk of the Integrated Sciences & Engineering Library.  Items requested from the W.E.B. Du Bois collection will be available in the Circulation Office (Entrance Floor), W.E.B. Du Bois Library.

Five College Delivery
The University Library System offers a book paging service from the Libraries of the Four Colleges. (Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Hampshire and Amherst). The material requested is sent to the W.E. B Du Bois Library usually within 2 business days of the original request. This service is only available to UMass Faculty, Students, and Staff with a valid U-Card. In turn, the University allows the Faculty, Students and Staff of the Four Colleges reciprocal borrowing privileges contingent upon their having a valid Four College photo ID.
