Instructions for making persistent links into UMass Catalog Items
Important fact to note: Any link that contains an “acc_sequence” number will not work as a persistent link, e.g. “acc_sequence=014055877”.
Linking to a specific item
When you want to link to a specific record, you will need to locate the bib record number for the item. Within the OPAC, this is found at the end of the MARC record, and generally looks like this example:
SYS 003277940
Follow these steps:
- Use the catalog that has the item you will want to link to. Don’t use the 5-College Union Catalog. Use the UMass Catalog if the record you want to use is in it, or if it is in another catalog, use that library’s specific catalog.
- Find the title you want to link, and go to the page labeled “Full View” (the bib record page for the item.) At the bottom of the bib record page, click on “MARC view”. At the bottom of MARC record for the item, you will find the doc number.
For example: “SYS 003277940”; use all 9 digits.
Paste the following URL prefix into your browser, and add you doc number after the equal sign (=)
http://fcaw.library.umass.edu:8991/F/?func=item-global&doc_library=FCL01&doc_number=
An example of a persistent URL using doc no. 003277940 is:
http://fcaw.library.umass.edu:8991/F/?func=item-global&doc_library=FCL01&doc_number=003277940
This url will always take you to the “call number and availability” page for the book Mudlumps at the mouth of South Pass….
