Instructions for making persistent links into UMass Catalog Search Sets

Link to a set of search results (author, subject, titles, or journal title “begins with” searches)

1. Perform the search.

2. You can make a persistent link for the search to the first list view that appears, but not any further. If you click to a further screen, you end up with the “acc_sequence” number in the search string and this will not work as a persistent link.

For example, use a subject begins with search with “Connecticut river valley maps”.

You will get something like the following URL (the letters & numbers in the middle may be slightly different – that is OK)

http://fcaw.library.umass.edu:8991/F/D4AR4TSDPPLHIXJ3958E3XBBSVAP9DEH6BEN2UUENDTG4KJ7GI01058?func=finde&find_scan_code=SCAN_SUB&request=Connecticut+river+valley+maps&adjacent=N&x=40&y=6

Every catalog URL will begin with something like:

http://fcaw.library.umass.edu:8991/F/

Then, you'll see a long random sequence of letters and numbers (bolded and underlined in the example)
Eventually, you'll come to a string that starts with    ?func=

Remove the long random sequence of letters and numbers that begins after /F/ and ends before ?func=. Leave the slash following the F and the question mark preceding func.

You should wind up with the following as your persistent link:

http://fcaw.library.umass.edu:8991/F/?func=find-e&find_scan_code=SCAN_SUB&request=connecticut+river+valley+maps&adjacent=N

(If you click to a further screen, you will end up with the “acc_sequence”number in the URL, and this will not work)

Also – if you want to search the UMass database only, paste the following to the end of the search string:

&local_base=fcl01uma
