W.E.B. Du Bois and Shirley Graham Du Bois
at Coney Island, 1958
From the extensive materials in the Du Bois Papers, an exhibit has been prepared that provides a biographical overview of Du Bois' life and deals with both his intellectual achievements and the highlights of his career. The materials are largely photographs, but they include extensive information on Du Bois' life and work as illustrated by the photographs, along with graphics from the collection and facsimiles of significant documents.
The exhibit has been mounted on a series of sixteen lightweight framed panels that can be shipped easily and exhibited in many different types of areas. The security required of the environment is the lowest of the three classifications used. The Massachusetts Foundation for Humanities and Public Policy has supported both the preparation and the lending of this exhibit, so that the rental fee is limited to the expenses of shipping and maintenance of the exhibit. The lender arranges for shipping. The exhibit also includes, at no additional charge, 50 copies of a booklet about Du Bois, his life and career, based on the exhibit, and selections from some of his most significant writings.
