W.E.B. Du Bois, Burghart Du Bois, and Nina Du Bois Series 17 of the W. E. B. Du Bois Papers contains approximately 850 photographs accumulated by Dr. Du Bois throughout his life and a photograph album from the family of Du Bois' mother. The images of colleagues, friends, family, and historic events provide a rich visual record of Dr. Du Bois' intellectual, social, and political commitments from his days as a boy in Great Barrington, Mass., to his death in Ghana in 1963.

The scans are arranged topically in groups and are presented here with their reference numbers. The first and largest group, associated with Du Bois' work as editor of the Crisis are arranged alphabetically by subject of the image, with the remainder of the scans presented in order of their reference numbers, roughly chronologically. Images may not be used without the permission of the Department of Special Collections and University Archives.
