As a child growing up in Houston, Texas my doctor prescribed Brer Rabbit Black Strap Molasses. I had to have at least one large spoon full everyday, usually two. Sometimes my great Aunt would stir it into a glass of milk for me to drink, or at other times just have me take the spoon full straight. Since her husband was a salesman for Penick & Ford, we always had plenty of Brer Rabbit around the house, and all their products were used in much of the cooking.
