The first act provided for land which states could sell to raise funds for colleges in the agricultural and mechanical arts. The second act provided direct financial support to colleges. Funds from the sale of lands provided from this act were used in Massachusetts to provide for the founding of the Massachusetts Agricultural College.
+Built in 1916, [[buildings:m:marshall_hall|Marshall Hall]] originally served as a state-of-the-art bacteriology laboratory. The building and its annex were demolished prior to the construction of the Integrated Science Building.
