Association for African American Historical Research and Preservation

The mission of this nonprofit organization is to locate, collect, preserve and disseminate historical and genealogical information related to the African American population.

Association for the Study of African American Life and History

Founded in 1915, it ASALH is one of the oldest African American Studies associations. Operates local, state, and international branches promoting greater knowledge of African American history through a program of education, research, and publishing. The ASALH supports the study of African American history in homes, schools, colleges, churches, organizations, businesses, and government; sets the annual theme for National African American History Month and Kit; sponsors specialized professional development curriculum workshops, institutes, and seminars; and organizes an undergraduate essay contest.

National Association of African American Studies

Founded in 1992. Organizes a yearly conference spanning many disciplines, including but not limited to: literature, demographics, history, politics, economics, education, health care, fine arts, religion, social sciences, business and many other subjects.

National Council for Black Studies

Founded in 1975 by African American scholars in order to formalize the study of the African World experience, as well as expand and strengthen academic units and community programs devoted to this endeavor. Publishes the International Journal of African Studies and The Voice of Black Studies. Organizes conferences and institutes.
