Journals and Periodicals for Afro American Studies

Journals and periodicals are cataloged in the Library's online catalog under their respective titles (e.g., African American Review, Journal of Black Studies) and also under appropriate subject headings followed by the subdivision -Periodicals (e.g., African Americans-Periodicals).

To determine what each journal contains (i.e., the titles and authors of articles and essays in the journals), you will need to consult one of the online databases or periodical indexes (e.g., Infotrac) or a print index such as the Index to Black periodicals cited in the Reference Materials section of this guide.

Most journals are to be found in print format in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, but an increasing number can be located in an electronic form (often linked directly from the online catalog or an online index). If you want to see which Afro American Studies journals are available online, many are listed on our Electronic Journals page.

Selected Afro American Studies journals currently subscribed to. Each title is followed by the Library's call number. Please note: this is not an exhaustive list.
