UMass Doctoral Dissertations

To identify individual doctoral theses, use the Library Catalog author, title, subject or keyword search. To browse all, use the general subject heading:

The Library keeps three copies of UMass doctoral theses, and provides online access to recently completed dissertations:

    1. On the 20th floor. All call numbers start with LD3234.M267, followed by the year of the thesis. These can be checked out.
    2. In Microforms, Main floor. Library use only.
    3. In Special Collections and Archives, 25th floor. Library use only.
    4. Online Dissertations: use Digital Dissertations. Citations and abstracts of doctoral and some masters theses, mostly completed in colleges and universities of the United States and Canada. Full text access to UMass dissertations. Many UMass anthropology dissertations are now also listed in ScholarWorks, the UMass digital repository.

Dissertations Outside UMass

  • Digital Dissertations Citations and abstracts of doctoral and some masters theses, mostly completed in colleges and universities of the United States and Canada since 1861. It includes full text of the first 24 pages of most recent (1997-) dissertations and full text access to UMass dissertations.
  • U.K. Social Anthropology Thesis Data (mainly post-1970 doctoral theses)
  • Information on Foreign Dissertations by Language This web page, by the University of Chicago Library, has links to dissertation databases in Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, France and other French-speaking countries, Germany, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, and other Spanish-speaking countries.

Masters Theses

To identify individual Masters theses, use the Library Catalog author, title, subject or keyword search. To browse all, use the general subject heading:

  • Theses -- Anthropology -- Masters

    The Library keeps two copies of UMass Masters theses:

    1. On the 20th floor. All call numbers start with LD3234.M268, followed by the year of the thesis. These can be checked out.
    2. In Special Collections and Archives, 25th floor. Library use only.

Senior Honors Theses

Are available in Special Collections and Archives, 25th floor. Arranged by year, by department or alphabetically by name. These cannot be checked out.
