Theses and Dissertation Research by Subject

To search for dissertations by subject, use the Digital Dissertations database. Digital Dissertations is a comprehensive index to theses and dissertations from U.S. and Canadian universities from 1861 to present. The database provides the first 24 pages of each dissertation from 1997 forward in PDF format. UMass dissertations from 1997 forward are available in their entirety.

Theses and Dissertations from other Universities

To request theses and dissertations from other universities, submit an Interlibrary Loan Request (ILL). The Library's ILL Department will locate theses and dissertations held nationwide, and request delivery to UMass. Occasionally, items are available on microfilm only. ILL is a free service for UMass students, faculty, and staff. For dissertations not available in U.S. libraries, you may purchase a copy directly from the Dissertation Express website or by phone at 1-800-521-0600.
