Country Reports and Data



Use this guide to locate books and databases that offer current country reports. Country reports analyze a country's political and economic conditions. For help, contact Mike Davis, Business Librarian, jmdavis@library.umass.edu.



Top Reference Books
  • Europa World Yearbook (At Reference Desk, Ref. JN1.E89). Detailed annual economic and political survey for every country. Includes recent political and economic history.
  • Global Competitiveness Report 2003 (Ref. HF1414.G559). The world's leading cross-country comparison of data relating to economic competitiveness and growth.
  • International Financial Statistics Yearbook (Ref. HG3881.I5761, at Reference Desk). Annual IMF survey. Reports annual national account and macroeconomic data from 1965 to present.
  • OECD Economic Outlook (Ref. HC59.O3). Biannual analysis of latest economic trends and short-term projections for OECD member states and selected non-member states.
  • Statesman's Yearbook (At Reference Desk, Ref. JA51.S79). Annual profile of the politics, cultures, and economies of the world.
  • United Nations Statistical Yearbook (Ref. HA12.5.U58). Topical arrangement for every country. Covers population and social statistics, economic activity, and international economic relations.

ISI Emerging Markets
News, company and industry reports, macroeconomic statistics and forecasts from emerging market countries in Asia, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Columbia International Affairs Online
Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. Includes working papers, proceedings, books, journals and policy briefs.

EIU Country Reports
In-depth reports on the latest economic, political, and market conditions in countries worldwide. Each report provides a political and economic outlook for the next 12-18 months.

Mergent Online
Mergent Online offers country "snapshot" reports. The concise reports provide current facts and maps of countries worldwide. Connect to Mergent Online, then select a country for the Country drop-down menu on the left of screen.

NBER Working Papers
Economic working papers for the National Bureau of Economic Research--a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization. NBER puts country research within an international context.

STAT-USA
U.S. Department of Commerce database includes export reports, guides, and data from 15 government agencies. Includes Country Commercial Guides and foreign market research reports.
