National Bureau of Economic Research
Private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization based at Harvard University, dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. Research conducted by more than 600 university professors around the country, the leading scholars in their fields.

The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI)
Independent unit at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with close ties to the Department of Economics. Actively engaged in research, dissemination, policy advising, and graduate student education.

Social Science Data Resources
Over 24,000 datafiles covering a broad range of disciplines, including political science, sociology, demography, economics, history, education, gerontology, criminal justice, public health, foreign policy, and law.

Statistical Resources for Economics
Comprehensive site at the University of Michigan where many sources are brought together in one location.

Associations & Societies

Associations and societies provide a wealth of information relevant to a discipline. Professional academic groups hold conferences, publish conference proceedings, and keep members informed about upcoming activities. This kind of information helps students identify individual scholars in a field and their research interests. Papers delivered at professional conferences, often posted on these Web sites, contain valuable research that may never appear in print.

Central Banks of the World
Includes Finance Ministry and national policy papers as well as Central Bank links.

European Union
Presents reports and statistics from all member countries. Includes aggregate documents covering the entire membership.

Inter-American Development Bank
Contains economic and demographic information on Latin American and Caribbean countries.

The International Monetary Fund
Good source for statistical topics and research papers. Also covers controversial issues of globalization.

Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development
Compiles a wide variety of resources, from country surveys to reports on genetically modified crops. Most information is free.

World Bank
Focuses on globalization, international development, and also contains statistics on individual countries.

Massachusetts

Mass Stats
Comprehensive site for data on population, income, labor supply, layoffs, and more. From the state Division of Employment and Training.

Massachusetts Economy - Web Resources for Active Learning
UMass Economics Professor Nancy Folbre maintains this site which describes college courses taught throughout Massachusetts on the local economy. Includes links to Web sites that examine the state's economy.

Massachusetts Institute for Social and Economic Research - MISER
As the lead agency in the State Data Center program, MISER serves as liaison between the Commonwealth and the US Bureau of the Census, and houses all the latter's data on Massachusetts. MISER's research involves planning, strategy, and forecasting, with a focus on social, economic, and demographic issues.

The UMass Department of Economics Working Paper Series
Provides full-text research reports on economics topics that are often not available or indexed elsewhere.

Bureau of Labor Statistics
Information and data from the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Includes statistics on unemployment, inflation, labor relations, worker safety and health, and much more.

Census Bureau

Federal Reserve Board
Information about the Federal Reserve System, interest rates, meeting minutes and many other reports.

Treasury Department
