GENEVA CONVENTIONS


The Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 embodies four different treaties: 1. The relief of wounded and sick in Armed Forces; 2.  Wounded, sick, and shipwrecked members of Armed Forces at sea;  3. Treatment of prisoners of war;  4. Treatment of civilians and noncombatants.  This guide focuses heavily on the third convention, treatment of prisoners of war, and how the conventions relate to contemporary situations such as the conflict in Iraq and the war on terrorism.
