E-journals

Access thousands of federal and state government journals electronically from the Library Catalog. Almost all government databases are available to off campus users. Databases that the library subscribes to are available on Library computers to all. They are available off-campus to UMass students, faculty, staff, and affiliates with an OIT account ; enter your OIT username and password when prompted.

Search by specific title

Search for specific journal or periodical titles in the Library Catalog by the title or Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification number.

Search by keyword

Search journals and periodicals in a researcher's topic area by keyword followed by the word "periodicals" (e.g. government periodicals)

Search by subject

Using the "Library of Congress Subject Headings" (Ref Z695 L695), search government periodicals under appropriate subject headings followed by the subdivision "Periodicals"
(example: Congress Periodicals).

Indexes:

Titles of indexes and Web sites to search specifically for online periodicals and serials issued by federal agencies as well as a list of key government electronic journals, follow.

Government Periodicals (University of Louisville)
Alphabetical listing by title. Each title citation includes links to other subject related materials.

Migrating Government Publications (University of Memphis)
Serials and periodicals in dual format and in electronic (Internet) format only. Arranged both alphabetically by title and by SuDoc classification number. Links to the publication whenever possible or to the nearest search screen.

Major Journals:

A sampling (not an exhustive list) of the wide range of major journals published by the federal government follows. The beginning date identifies when the journal first appeared online and not necessarily when the journal began publication. For many titles the Library holds print issues for earlier and/or later years. Check the Library Catalog for more complete information.

CPI Detailed Report (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
(2000- ) Monthy. Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services.
Calculates cost of living increase (inflation rate) monthly and annually.

Economic Indicators (for Joint Committee on Economics by Council on Economic Advisors)
(1998- ) Monthly. Pertinent economic information on prices, wages, production, business activity, purchasing power, credit, money, and federal finance.

FedBizopps (General Services Administration)
(2002- ) Single government point-of-entry (GPE) for federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000. Commercial vendors seeking federal markets for their products and services can search, monitor and retrieve opportunities solicited by the entire federal contracting community. Replaces "Commerce Business Daily".

Humanities (National Endowment for the Humanities)
(Nov/Dec 1996- ) Bimonthly. NEH programs, projects, and issues in the humanities. Gives recent grants, deadlines, and useful information for applicants seeking funds.

Issues in Democracy (Dept. of State)
(1996- ) One of six electronic journals issued by the Dept. of State. Each issue covers a different topic related to democratic government: courts, criminal justice, elections, etc.

MMWR, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (Centers for Disease Control)
(1982- ) Data on specific diseases as reported by state and territorial health departments, reports on infectious and chronic diseases, environmental hazards, natural or human-generated disasters, occupational diseases and injuries, and intentional and unintentional injuries.

Monthly Labor Review (Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics)
(1988- ) Principal journal of fact, analysis, and research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists, statisticians, and experts provide a wealth of research in a wide variety of fields-the labor force, the economy, employment, inflation, productivity, occupational injuries and illnesses, wages, prices, and many more.

Prologue (National Archives and Records Administration (NARA))
(1982- ) Quarterly. Articles on U.S. history based on research and resources of NARA.

Survey of Current Business (Bureau of Economic Analysis)
(1994- ) Quarterly. Articles on the current business situation, inventories and sales, international business.
