Journals and Periodicals
The following list offers key tips for finding information in journals and periodicals. For an overview, users might review Library Research Basics ~ GENERAL TUTORIAL ~ Journals and Periodicals.
Articles on a Topic:
If you are trying to find articles published about your chosen research topic, start with one of our Databases or Periodical Indexes available remotely to UMass faculty, students, and staff with OIT accounts and in the Library to all.
Journals on a Topic:
Search for journals and periodicals on a topic by conducting a Subject search in the Library Catalog and adding the word Periodicals (e.g., Cancer Periodicals) to your search.
Specific Journals:
Search for a specific journal or periodical in the Library Catalog with a Journal Title search. Most journals are in print in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library. Current print issues of journals are in the Periodicals/Microforms Room on the Main Level or on the shelves nearby. Earlier issues of journals are on the upper floors integrated with the books in call number order.
Electronic Journals
An increasing number of journals are available electronically (often linked directly from the Library Catalog or an online index). To see which journals are available online, visit our Electronic Journals page or search by Journal Title in the "Quick Search" at the Electronic Journal Locator.
Printed Indexes:
There are also many indexing and abstracting sources available in print in the Library's Reference collections.
