For cases decided between 1658 and 1906, there is a 5-volume Table of Cases. From 1907-1996, there are Tables of Cases for each 10 year period.  From 1976-present, there are Tables of Cases for every 5 years.  There are also Defendant-Plaintiff Tables from 1976-present.

Shepard's Acts and Cases by Popular Name
Ref. Desk KF 90 S5
Sometimes cases are referred to by a "popular name", e.g. the Dred Scott decision rather than the actual name of the case. Shepard's Acts and Cases by Popular Name provides citations to federal and state cases listed alphabetically by "popular name".

Search Engines
If you know the name of a case, it's sometimes possible to find it via an Internet search engine, e.g. Google, AltaVista, Lycos. Use parentheses around the case name, e.g. "Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education".
