Finding Microforms Microforms are books, journals, or other materials that are printed in miniaturized form on plastic or card stock. Those that come in the form of a long roll of transparent plastic are called microfilm, while those that come on small rectangular sheets are called microfiche. White opaque sheets are called microprints and microcards. Microforms allow for long-term, non-print storage of large amounts of information in compressed, but easily accessible format. Current and retrospective newspapers (particularly regional and international), family papers, and government documents are just a few of the materials received as microforms. All microforms are stored in the basement of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library and must be retrieved by Reserve, Media & Microforms (RMM) staff who are located on the 3rd floor.
