Library Databases

Databases vary in their use of terminology. As PubMed and Medline contain almost exclusively health related content, using SARS as a subject search will bring you more results than using Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. However, if you search Expanded Academic ASAP or Health Reference Center Academic, you will be directed from SARS to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome to find the appropriate citations or articles. (These resources are available on campus, or off-campus to UMass Amherst affiliates with an OIT account unless otherwise noted. Enter your OIT login and password when prompted.)

Expanded Academic ASAP
Articles from more than 1,500 scholarly journals and general interest magazines in the humanities, social sciences and general sciences, many in full text.

Health Reference Center Academic
Citations, some full text journal articles and health-related pamphlets, and entries from selected reference publications relating to health and allied health.

Lexis-Nexis Academic
Full text articles from tens of thousands of periodicals, including business and medical periodicals; international, national and college newspapers, etc.

Medline or PubMed (free to all)
Citations and abstracts for medical journal articles and reports from the National Library of Medicine's comprehensive database. PubMed, which is free, contains even more content than Medline.

NewsBank
Complete full-text content of local and regional news in the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Springfield Republican, and Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
