Library Catalogs

The UMass Amherst Library Catalog is now part of the unified Five Colleges Library Catalog, but use the links at the top right (grey bar) of the library catalog screen to confine your search to any one school’s library.

Search and browse for books, journals, and other materials by author, title, subject, keyword, call number, journal title, etc.  For materials on a specific subject, enter your term(s) using the Keyword anywhere or Subject keyword searches. The Library of Congress Subject Headings (Z695.L695+) located near the Reference Desk suggests search terms (subject headings). Or if you find one good title, look at the subject headings in that record.

Other Library Catalogs
To expand your research to other libraries, try the following catalogs. Ways to obtain materials not owned by UMass Amherst Libraries (Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery).

Virtual Catalog
Search the Library Catalogs of many academic and public libraries in New England.

WorldCat (UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff use their OIT account for off-campus access)
Search the catalogs of thousands of libraries around the world.

CW/MARS Catalog

Find Library Materials by Call Number

The Library Catalog provides a call number and location for each item. The call number consists of an alphanumeric string based on the Library of Congress classification system. View an example of how to read a call number. Materials on science, engineering, and mathematics reside primarily in the G,Q,R,S, and T call number areas. These call number areas are located in the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Library and in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library on Floors 18 (G), 23 (Q,R-RC), and 24 (RD-RZ,S,T).  Floor directory for W.E.B. Du Bois Library.
