UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIANS SELECTED FOR LIBRARY LEADERS INSTITUTE
Amherst, MA - UMass Amherst Librarians Paulina Borrego, Maxine Schmidt, and Carol Will have been selected as up and coming library leaders to participate in the Library Leadership Massachusetts Institute, July 27-30, 2009, at Wheaton College, in Norton, Massachusetts. The three are among 40 applicants selected from a highly-qualified pool of candidates from across the state. The Institute is sponsored by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the six Massachusetts Regional Library Systems. Its goal is to cultivate, educate, and support emerging leaders working in and/or for libraries in Massachusetts.
Schreiber Shannon Associates, prominent national consultants, will guide the Institute. Participants will study library issues through case studies, readings, discussions, and other planned learning activities. The Institute will create a structure for continuing supportive relationships among its participants. In exchange, graduates will play a role in advocacy efforts for Massachusetts libraries through professional organizations and/or contributions to publications or newsletters.
