3D Print Service Availability Fall 2020
We will provide consultations and 3D printing production for our campus population for personal, academic, or professional production.
We will not produce prints for public patrons at this time. We are available for consultations related to learning about 3D printing technology, related software (3D modeling, model evaluation, etc), and more.
Our 3D Printers
The Digital Media Lab utilizes 50 3D printers that produce prototypes to final products for the UMass Amherst campus and the public. Our printers are Fused Deposition Modeling printers. This type of printer heats material (plastic) and lays it down in layers to create a 3D object.
We have 49 MakerBot 3D printers. The majority of these printers use PLA or polylatic acid filament, which is more reliable and safer to print with. The Replicator 2X prints with ABS. The models are:
|Replicator 5th Gen.||
9.9" L x 7.8" W x 5.9" H (251.46mm x 198.12mm x 149.86)
|Replicator Z18||11.8" L x 12.0" W x 18.0" H (299.72mm x 304.8mm x 457.2mm)||PLA|
|Replicator Mini||4.5" x 4.7" x 4.7" (114mm x 119.38mm x 119.38mm)||PLA|
9.7in x 6.0in x 6.1in (246mm L x 152mm x 155mm)
Our service has one Ultimaker 3 Extended that can produce parts with various types of materials such as: PLA, ABS (not available at this time), Nylon, Polycarbonate, TPU 95A (flexible filament), Polypropylene, CPE (copolyester), PVA (not available at this time, water-soluble support material). Please visit our materials page for more information.
