Ready Player One - Competition
UMass Amherst + Virtual Reality = Win an HTC VIVE Virtual Reality Headset (worth $599)!
With virtual reality (VR), the possibilities are endless–including at UMass Amherst, where the Digital Media Lab (DML) is now using the HTC VIVE to bring VR capabilities to campus. HTC VIVE is also the official partner of the new movie, Ready Player One, centered around the creation of an entire VR world.
In light of the film’s release at the end of March, the DML is sponsoring a video contest open to all UMass Amherst students. Prizes include tickets to Ready Player One, a copy of Ready Player One signed by author Ernest Cline, and an HTC VIVE VR headset provided by Steve Acquah, the new Digital Media Lab Coordinator and Director of the Global Educational Outreach for Science Engineering and Technology (GEOSET) initiative.
The contest deadline is 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Winners will be selected by a panel of Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Services (UTLS) members and announced on the DML website by 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
Record a video no longer than 1 minute in length expressing how you would use VR to enhance campus life. Entrees will be judged on the idea presented, feasibility, and impact.
To submit your entry, please bring a physical copy of the video (flash drive) to the Digital Media Lab on Floor 3 of the W. E. B. Du Bois Library, along with your full name, UMass email address, and a contact phone number.
Visit the Digital Media Lab to see the HTC VIVE in action. Students may also use the DML to record submissions.
