====== RUSH cataloging and processing workflow ====== If a book, DVD, or CD cannot be cataloged quickly using the FastCat guidelines, please see the updated RUSH processing instructions below. **EXCEPTION: Items that are going on reserve are shelved in call number order and may be on the reserve shelf for up to a year. We will catalog reserve material as soon as it is received.** The procedures are as follows: * Barcode the item. Barcodes are placed in the upper left corner on books and DVDs. Barcodes are placed in the lower left corner on CDs. * Scan the barcode into the item record. * End processing (e.g. call number label, security targets, stamps, stickers, etc.) will happen after the item is cataloged. * In the item record, set the Sublibrary and Collection codes correctly for the material type (see table below). * Change the item process status from PC to blank. Update. * Go to the HOL Links tab in the item record and create a new holding. **ALL ITEMS REQUIRE A HOLDINGS RECORD.** Partial or empty call numbers are allowed. * Add a note in the Circ Note field in the item record: "Please give to staff member to bring to RUSH return shelf in the IRM Department upon return." * Send RUSH books to the correct contact in Circulation. * When materials are returned and placed on the RUSH return shelf the item status needs to be changed from blank to PC. The RUSH Return shelf will be checked daily by Metadata Unit staff to do so. | | **Sublibrary** | **Collection** | **Material Type** | **Item Status**| | **Book** | UMDUB or UMSCI | UGEN | BOOK | 01 | | **DVD** | UMDUB | UMDVD | VDVD | 06 | | **CD** | UMDUB | UMMCD | AUDCD | 06 |
