"AA" CHART FOR CATALOGING TO LOCATIONS AS APPROPRIATE

This schedule is to be used when cataloging "AA" (as appropriate). The designation "Cat. to..." takes precedence over this chart. The following list is limited primarily to those areas of the classification schedules which are designated for branch libraries or sublocations . Within these areas are exceptions, which are indicated in the footnotes. Each footnote applies only where noted. "Du Bois" is included only if it is an exception within a larger block assigned to the Science and Engineering Library (SEL). All schedules and portions of schedules not listed are to be cataloged to Du Bois.

Bibliographies Ref. Consideration

  1. All pre-1970 imprint monographic titles will be cataloged to Du Bois rather than SEL, unless they are specifically designated for SEL ("Cat. to SEL," "SEL Ref." or "SEL Repl." in library notes on packing slip or order record).

  2. Only monographs in the English language will be cataloged to SEL, regardless of date or place of publication, unless they are specifically designated for SEL (notes on packing slip or order record). EXCEPTION: French language books on mathematics will be cataloged to SEL.

  3. Works in classes M, ML and MT are given sublibrary code UMDUB and collection code UGEN in their ALEPH item records, regardless of whether they are books or scores; "Music" or "Score" is no longer printed on the call number labels. Works in M2-3 ("monuments of music" and composers' collected works, chiefly scores) are shelved in Reserves/Media/Microforms, and are given ALEPH sublibrary code UMMDA and collection code UMMON; "Score" is no longer printed on the call number labels. All scores, no matter their classification, should have the material type code MUSIC (MUSIC SCORE) in their ALEPH item records.

  4. The State Geological Survey publications for the New England states are the only ones which will be cataloged to SEL, i.e. Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The rest will be cataloged to the Map collection in Du Bois. Any questions should be referred to the science librarian/geology liaison for consideration and decision.

  5. Do not catalog to SEL:
         Historical, sociological, etc. atlases
         Rare books and manuscripts

    However, do catalog to SEL:
Anything "AA to SEL," even in the above categories, with a "Notify" or a "Hold" for someone whose address is a science or engineering department.

When in doubt, give the item to Cindy Spell for consideration; there is no longer a Science Consideration Shelf.
