+====== ARL Electronic Resources Collection Statistics ======
+Each year we report collection numbers to the Association of Research Libraries. The E-Resources unit puts the total numbers of e-journals and abstracting and indexing tools (paid and not paid) are added to the ARL EResources masterfile for 20xx, an .xls in S:\Acquisitions\ARL Statistics. That file is sent to Mae each month.
 +
 +===== Fulltext E-journals =====
+These are gathered from a basic export (KBTools) of “//Count the number of active object_portfolios per target_service where both the target_service and the target are active//”. This .xls of targets provides the numbers of active titles in each target, and must be separated into four columns based on whether it is a target for titles that are:
 +  * paid,
 +  * open access,
 +  * aggregator paid, or
 +  * aggregator free.
+Totals from these respective columns are then entered as monthly numbers of full-text purchased, full-text not purchased, aggregator paid and aggregator free records. This file is saved in W:\DEPARTMENTAL_FOLDERS\Acquisitions\SFX_Project\20xx Statistics for each month.
 +
+===== Abstracting and Indexing Databases =====
+These are counted through Aleph Services reports. Instructions for running those reports are in ALEPH Services for Ebook and Abstracting and Indexing Statistics. Codes used, selection criteria and examples follow.
 +
+For Section G. “Current Serials Received”, electronic indexing & abstracting tools purchased and not purchased are “counted” from an [[ALEPH Services for ARL Collection Statistics|Aleph services report]] with:
 +  * Order type
 +  * Material type
 +  * Order status
 +  * Acquisition method
 +  * Budget
 +  * Notes
 +  * Title
 +
+Create worksheets from the Aleph Services Report for "As Received", "Purchased" and "Not Purchased". Sort the data in separate worksheets to determine the titles to be counted as purchased and not purchased. Spreadsheet is stored at S:\Acquisitions\ARL Statistics with a filename "FY**_aandi_moyr.xls".
 +
+Electronic Indexing & abstracting tools purchased are:
 +  * Order type = S or O
 +  * Status = SV or RSV
 +  * Acquisition method = P or CC or M or PF
 +  * Budget = Electronic Resources
 +
+Electronic Indexing & abstracting tools NOT purchased are:
 +  * Order type = S or O
 +  * Status = SV or RSV
 +  * Acquisition method = F or PX
 +  * Budget = Electronic Resources
 +
+If a database consists of a collection of electronic books or electronic journals, the material type should be consistent with the individual entities within it, e.g. Gale Virtual Reference Library should be an “EB” and JSTOR should be an “EJ”.
 +
+Any database purchased with a one-time payment should NOT be counted as a continuing resource, e.g. Ethnic Newswatch Retro, Latin American Newspapers, or Book Review Digest Retro. These will have closed order status and/or a budget other than electronic resources. Annual access fee payments do not count as a continuing series.
 +
+Other databases routinely removed from the count:
+  * CSA Bundle, Arts Premium Package (ProQuest), ProQuest Business Package, ProQuest Social Sciences Premium, HeinOnline and Literature Criticism Online records b/c titles within these groups are counted. Note: keep ProQuest Political Science b/c it contains unique journal content in addition to PAIS and WPSA.
+  * RefWorks and RefShare b/c it is not an A&I tool
 +  * Cataloger's Desktop b/c it is a staff tool
+  * Music Cataloging Bulletin b/c it is a staff tool
+  * ACRL Metrics b/c it is a staff tool
+  * RLG Union Catalog b/c it is a staff tool, suppressed from public view
+  * Portico b/c it is a hosting service, not an A&I tool
+  * LOCKSS b/c it is an archiving service, not an A&I tool
+  * RDA Toolkit b/c it is a staff tool
