SEL Monographic Problems Procedure

General Problems

Karen Markham will send or confer with Susan Pease on any general problems with SEL books. Susan will communicate back to Karen to let her know that a problem has been received and when to expect the fix. Meghan Bergin is the resource person for both Susan or Karen for any difficulties or special situations/problems.

New Books

Karen Markham will confer with Susan Pease on problems with SEL new books. Susan will communicate back to Karen to let her know that a problem has been received and when to expect the fix. Meghan Bergin is the resource person for both Susan or Karen for any difficulties or special situations/problems.

Transfers of Books

Karen Markham will confer with Susan Pease on problems or situations where SEL books need to be transferred to Du Bois or DuBois to SEL. Susan will communicate back to Karen to let her know that a problem has been received and when to expect the fix. Meghan Bergin is the resource person for both Susan or Karen for any difficulties or special situations/problems.

Karen will transfer books within SEL. For instructions: SEL - Transfers Within SEL

John Caranci will handle any SEL monographs that need to be transferred to the Depository, Annex or DuBois and DuBois to SEL.

Books to be Withdrawn

Karen Markham will confer with Marcelle Lipke about SEL books that need to be withdrawn, including summer searches for missing books that are still missing after several searches and need to be withdrawn. Marcelle will communicate back to Karen to let her know that a problem has been received and when to expect the fix. Meghan Bergin is the resource person for both Marcelle or Karen for any difficulties or special situations/problems.

(Replacements) Withdrawn Books that are Returned

Replacements at SEL mostly occur when a patron has lost a book.

If a patron brings in a replacement book in lieu of paying for the book, Karen Markham will confer with Marcelle Lipke. Marcelle will communicate back to Karen to let her know that a problem has been received and when to expect the fix. Meghan Bergin is the resource person for both Marcelle or Karen for any difficulties or special situations/problems.

If a patron pays for a replacement copy, the book will be ordered in IRM Acquisitions and will go to Susan Pease for processing. Susan will follow her normal procedures for replacements, and send the book to Karen at SEL, noting that it is a replacement.

If a book has been missing and has not been withdrawn, Karen Markham will either remove the missing code. If there is an issue Karen will confer with Marcelle Lipke. If the book is sent to Marcelle, Marcelle will return any books received to Karen. Any missing withdrawn books will be treated as outlined above under “Books to Be Withdrawn.”
