Purging (removing) objects from Credo

Purging will remove an object from Fedora's (aka the underlying architecture for Credo) search engine but it will not remove the URL, metadata, or object files stored on the server. To remove the metadata and object file, you must manually delete the files from the server. To permanently remove the URL, you must put in a ticket with LTS and supply the record number (PID) – i.e. mums700-f001-i005.

:!: NOTE: Deleting or purging a file from the server will not remove the item URL or stop it from being in Google's search results.

To purge an object from Credo:

  1. Add a metadata file to the 'purge' folder which is inside the 'ingest' folder and alphabetically falls among the collection folders in the Credo server.
  2. Remove the '.xml' from the filename.

Files will be purged once an hour, right before the ingest runs. Files are purged 30 at a time so if there are more than 30, the next batch will wait until the next purge runs.

:!: Like with the ingest process, the files added to purge do not have to be actual metadata files, just files with named with the PID you want to purge and no file extension.
