Libraries Event Policy for Internal Campus Partners
To promote the scholarly and cultural life of the campus community, the UMass Amherst Libraries welcome requests from our W. E. B. Du Bois Library internal partners (e.g., Assistive Technology Center, Center for Teaching and Learning, IDEAS, Learning Resource Center, Office of Faculty Development, Writing Center, and Writing Program) to hold events in our facilities. The Libraries will prioritize library space needs first before considering requests. Events must enhance the academic or cultural life of the campus community, and/or contribute to the professional development of the faculty or staff of UMass Amherst. The Libraries Events Team reviews each request and considers the impact of the event on Library users and the ability of the Libraries to support the event in approving the request.
- Requests may only be submitted within one semester of the event’s date. Requests received outside of this window will not be considered.
- Requests will not be approved for events occurring during reading periods, midterms, finals, or under other circumstances that might disrupt the quiet study of Library users.
- Events will only be scheduled during open library hours.
- The sponsoring group is liable for any damage to Library equipment and furnishings beyond normal wear and tear.
- Library personnel may assist as needed with unlocking/locking of meeting rooms.
- Event requestors are responsible for setting up the furniture as needed and returning the room back to the configuration they found it in.
- Alcohol and smoking are prohibited in campus buildings.
- Food may be permitted upon special request. Groups are responsible for wiping down tables after events which have food and removing trash from from the room and placing them in the appropriate recepticals in the elevator lobby.
- Room 2601 is no longer available for booking.
